The championship is alive!
It’s Monday, the 27th of October 2025, and I am buzzing with excitement because the Mexican GP yesterday evening was all it has ever promised to be. Mexico’s track runs through an old baseball field and has both long straights and twisty turns: the perfect track to watch the fastest cars in the world fly by. The crowd is always prepared to scream and chant their hearts out and therefore make it one of the most anticipated Grand Prixs on the race calendar.
The starting lineup was screaming for wheel to wheel action from the second the five lights went out and that is exactly what happened. Lando Norris on Pole could finally decide a start for himself and left the rest of the pack behind him for pretty much the entire race. Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari was also able to defend his second place grid position throughout the race.
Behind them, though, the real battle was unfolding. Max Verstappen, starting from P5 after a less-than-ideal qualifying session, tried fighting Lewis Hamilton for positions, however managed to to touch the wheel of his Red Bull to the side of the second Ferrari. After a second collision between the two, Hamilton had to take the escape route off track and was awarded a ten second time penalty by the FIA.
After the pitstops the order remained Norris, Leclerc and Bearman, however Verstappen was able to overtake the Brit and claim the last step on the podium. Notably Oliver Bearman in the Haas was able to overtake and hold off Verstappen for a very long time; earning himself the title of “Driver of the Day” after his career-best finish of P4.
If it hadn’t been for Carlos Sainz spinning and hitting the barriers, bringing out a virtual safety car, there might have been a real battle for second place between the Dutchman and the Monegasque driver. But as the track had to be cleared, no overtakes were allowed and the chance at more points slipped from Verstappen’s hands.
Piastri who had previously led the championship couldn’t move past P8 on the grid and now concedes the lead to his teammate Norris by one point. With four races left of the season, the next being in Brazil on the 9th of November, the championship battle is very much alive and still a three-way race between Piastri, Norris and Verstappen.
