Pitch-side Perspective

My first time as a match day photographer

Real Madrid Castilla is a junior team to Real Madrid that plays in the Primera Federation, which is the third league in Spain, and yesterday I was able to go and watch the game pitch-side as a photographer. It was honestly such a cool way to experience the match. I had not previously been to a Castilla game or had any professional experience as a photographer so to combine the two was a really fun challenge.

After warming up the camera (and myself honestly) whilst the players were getting warmed up too, the match started and I got to snapping g photos.

I was sat on the wrong side for the first half so most of my photos were of the players backs. This wasn’t necessarily bad but it’s definitely something I will change next time I get this opportunity. However it was the only chance I got to take good pictures of the goalkeeper; Fran Gonzalez (how funny that his name is Fran too, right?).

The second half was a lot more interesting from a photographer’s point of view, as most of the action was happening on my side of the pitch now and I could actually capture the player’s faces. Sitting right by the corner of the pitch gave me the opportunity to capture some really awesome action shots, such as the one below:

Overall the experience was incredible and I really enjoyed letting my creative side flow in this way and to learn about a new side of this industry that I hadn’t explored before. I took over two thousand pictures but decided to keep 173 that I actually liked. I am considering making an instagram account where I can share more pictures at once, so if I do I will share the link to that account under my next photography-centred blog post: stay tuned!
