Las Vegas Grand Prix Recap

Las Vegas, different to the last two races recapped here, is not a popular track amongst Formula 1 fans. The track was first added in 2023 and has been known to be very chaotic. The night race takes place in the desert but with the temperatures dropping drastically at night it is a horrible viewing experience for fans at the track. Another contributing factor as to why people dislike the track is that there aren’t many opportunities to build grand stands and therefore tickets are limited. These limited tickets are often given to influencers and celebrities to promote the sport- leaving out fans.

From a sporting point of view the track doesn’t lend itself to overtakes, the highlight being the first corner as it is very tight and twisty- often resulting in crashes or cars touching.

This year’s race did exactly what fans expected it to: nothing. European fans dislike the race especially because it means waking up at four or five am to watch cars in a procession go around a track that looks like an upside down pig (see picture below). Overtaking is almost impossible and without that action it is very easy to doze off in the early hours of the morning.

The most exciting thing about this race came after the chequered flag, when both McLaren cars were disqualified for having too thin rearmost skid wear. The mechanics apologised to the drivers but with Max Verstappen winning the race this now puts him dangerously close to Lando Norris in the drivers standings. With two races left anything is possible in this title fight and fans are expecting Verstappen to clinch his fifth world championship title – in a car that shouldn’t be capable of such feats.
